What we collect
Account details. If you sign in, we store your email address (magic-link sign-in) or the basic profile Google shares with us (name, email, avatar), plus an optional profile photo you upload.
Study data. Questions attempted, answers chosen, correctness, review-queue state, and app preferences — used to restore your progress and power stats, streaks, and spaced review.
Feedback. Anything you submit through the in-app report button, along with the question and screen it was sent from.
Usage analytics. We use PostHog (including session replay on web) to understand how the app is used and to find bugs. Session replay can capture what you see and tap in the app.
What we never see
Your card number. Payments are handled entirely by Stripe — card details go straight to Stripe and never touch our servers. We only receive your plan status and billing identifiers.
Guest mode
You can practice without an account. Guest progress and preferences are stored only on your device (local storage) and are not sent to our servers until you sign in.
How we use it
To run the service: sync your progress, enforce free-tier limits, activate and manage your Pro plan, respond to feedback, and fix bugs.
To improve the app: aggregate usage stats show which questions and screens need work.
We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Who processes it
Supabase (database, authentication, file storage), Stripe (payments and billing portal), PostHog (product analytics), and Vercel (web hosting). Each processes only what it needs to provide its service to us.
Dictionary content is built from JMdict (CC BY-SA 4.0) and lives in the app — lookups do not leave your device.
Retention and deletion
We keep account and study data while your account is active. Email us to delete your account — we will remove your profile, attempts, and feedback within 30 days. Anonymous analytics may be kept in aggregate form.
Children
The app is a study tool for learners 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date above and, for material changes, flag it in the app before they take effect.
