〜たとたんに marks an abrupt event immediately following another — often an unexpected result.

Practice 〜とたんに →V-た + とたんに = "the moment / as soon as ~". The trigger 交代した is a completed change, and the large revision that followed right away is presented as an unintended consequence — the classic とたんに setup where the first clause is not the speaker's own action.
