How it's used

Noun + を皮切りに means 'beginning with ~ (as the first of a series)': 'Starting with the Tokyo show, they will tour ten cities nationwide.' It requires the marked event to be the kickoff of a continuing series, which the tour is. に至るまで marks a range's endpoint, べく expresses purpose after a verb, and ならいざ知らず needs a concessive contrast — none describes an event that opens a series.
