〜に反して
「に反して」marks that the exam's actual ease went against the prediction.

Practice 〜に反して →〜に反して attaches to a noun and means 'contrary to ~', used when reality turns out opposite to a prediction, expectation, or intention. The forecast called for something other than sun, yet it cleared — a contradiction only に反して expresses. 「に沿って」 is its semantic opposite (in line with), 「に応じて」 is responsiveness, and 「に加えて」 is addition.
