〜ようになる
ようになる marks a change in ability — after practicing, the speaker became able to read quickly.
Tested at JLPT N3 — 8 practice questions below.
Practice 〜ようになる →V-る + ようになる describes a transition — something that was not true before becoming true, often a new ability or habit. Coming to Japan naturally brought about the change of being able to eat nattō, so ようになった fits. ことにした would assert a deliberate resolution instead of a change, ところだった suggests it almost happened but didn't, and わけになった is not the change-of-state pattern.
