どうしても
どうしても with 〜たくなった expresses an irresistible craving — last night the speaker just couldn't help wanting something sweet.
Tested at JLPT N3 — 3 practice questions below.
Practice どうしても →どうしても means "no matter what / by all means" and, combined with a desire verb like 食べたい, conveys an urge that cannot be suppressed. 食べたくなった describes a craving that arose spontaneously, which is exactly what どうしても intensifies. きっと predicts an outcome ("surely"), どうか is used in polite requests ("please"), and せっかく refers to a hard-won chance or effort — none describe an urge you couldn't hold back.
