〜ところだ
V-辞書形 + ところだ means 'just about to ~' — I am at the very point of calling the person in charge now.
Tested at JLPT N2 — 4 practice questions below.
Practice 〜ところだ →〜ところだ marks the exact stage of an event: V-辞書形 + ところだ = about to start, V-ている + ところだ = in the middle, V-た + ところだ = just finished. 今電話するところだ puts the call at the immediate threshold. 「つもりだ」 reports intention rather than timing, 「ばかりだ」 needs the た-form for its 'just did' sense, and 「ものだ」 expresses general truths.
